I don't know why anyone thinks we should get nuclear weapons, the chinese would wipe us out with theirs if we ever used them. They're really not as useful as people thinks, especially since we're not percieved as suicidal nuts. As for a conventional war we'd have no hope against the Chinese unless the Yanks save our arses. The only way we'd have an issue with them is if they took over Taiwan by force and the US attacked them, and I'm not really sure either of these things would happen. Storm in a teacup really.
