    I have had a look at the site you referred to. They are Manadrin characters.

    I do know Mandarin.

    I do not know how familiar you are with the history of the Chinese language. The present written Chinese language (which in effect is mandarin) has gone thru some changes since 1950. There are the traditional written Chinese and the "new" written Chinese introduced by the Chinese government after 1950 to simplify some of the written Chinese characters.

    You will find that in Taiwan, I beleive the Chinese there still use the traditional written Chinese. In Hong Kong, there is a mix, same in Australia.
