The Telstra share price has never been over $5 while the Rudd Government has been in according to the charts I have seen.
Telstras share price was as low as $3.45 while the Howard Government was in.
Telstras share price was as low as $2.88 while the Rudd Government has been in.

So by using a snapshot view of the share price movement, the Howard Government was responsible for more than halving the share price from over $7 to less than $3.50 while they where in power.
And that was without the GFC and the NBN.

Telstra have been their own worst enemy and have had ample opportunity to change with minimum government intervention, but they have decided to play politics instead of adapting to what needs to change and making those changes before they are forced on them.

So why hasn't Telstra adapted to change so they can move forward?
Telstra share holders would be better served if Telstra did what they needed to do to move forward, instead of running the share price in to the ground.

Howard was a very good politician, Abbott is not even close to the caliber of Howard, and may even be Blind Freddy.

It is convenient to blame the current government for all the woes of Telstra, but the current situation is only a snapshot of where the share price is at the moment.

Where the share price goes from here will be up to the Telstra board and management. They have had ample opportunity to steer the business ahead and reduce government intervention, but the have not made the tough decisions and changes for the company to progress.

At least with a time limit on the NBN talks, Telstra hopefully will get back to business and start making the changes they need to make to progress the company.
