The constitution states the government can’t put those restrictions on religion. It applies only to the government not to private companies.

The bible, Koran etc have plenty of extremist crap in them. If you were to actually encourage people to do certain religious things, let’s say kill homosexuals or women who are not virgins on their wedding night, then you may well be charged with incitement to murder and jailed. Think extremist preachers using the Koran to encourage people to join ISIS and kill infidels. Thus, the government will jail you if you encourage people to follow parts of the bible and Koran. Folau’s comments don’t breach criminal law so he is fine on this point.

There are laws preventing discrimination in employment on the basis of religion. Folau may argue this point. Rugby Australia will say they employ plenty of Christians and Folau was not sacked for being Christian but for his comments on gays. Folau may say quoting the bible is an intrinsic part of being Christian. However, if you consider the implications of this, doesn’t it mean saying homosexuals and non-virgin women should be killed is also OK as religious expression ?
