Perhaps they are exiting the streaming part because there is no money in it unless they are willing to bid large sums to get the rights in big rugby loving countries...
...and will focus on generating money from the newspaper.
That would be a big shift in direction though - I would have thought Sky would need to tell its shareholders about this (if indeed this is what is happening here).
On a 'sort of' related note...if Sky are just going to run the RP newspaper...it does put some more credit to the notion of an eventual Sky/NZME merger. Sky would get into the newspaper business to further strengthen their position as a straight media play...backed up with a wholesale broadband offer.
Not trying to get too carried away with speculation here...but Osmium own damn near 1/5th of the equity of NZME and are likely still buying Sky equity. Perhaps they see something here...time will tell.
