On 7 August 2014, the Remuneration Tribunal made Remuneration Tribunal Determination 2014/16: Members of Parliament – Travelling Allowance (Determination 2014/16), a new determination that replaced in full Remuneration Tribunal Determination 2013/17: Members of Parliament – Travelling Allowance (Determination 2013/17). A link to Determination 2014/16 is available on the Ministerial and Parliamentary Services website.
Determination 2014/16 updated the rates of domestic travelling allowance (TA) for Senators, Members and specified office holders and is effective from 31 August 2014. A copy of the revised TA rates is available on the Ministerial and Parliamentary Services website.
The principal changes between Determination 2013/17 and Determination 2014/16 include:
Updated versions of the Parliamentarian’s Travel Declaration (Form 4), which reflect the changes contained in Determination 2014/16, and the Travelling and/or Motor Vehicle Allowance Claim (Form 54), are available on the Ministerial and Parliamentary Services website.
- the Canberra TA rate increases from $268 to $271 per overnight stay;
- the daily expense allowance, payable to a Senator or Member from the Australian Capital Territory or representing an electorate adjacent to the Australian Capital Territory, and whose principal place of residence is within a 30km radius of Parliament House, increases from $84 to $85 per day; and
- the meals and incidentals allowance payable to Ministers in exceptional circumstances has increased from $167 to $170 per day; and
