Sunnybank Private Hospital is emerging as south Brisbane's 'health hub'

Sunnybank has cemented itself as one of Brisbane's fastest growing medical hubs with a new, specialist centre to open as part of a $50 million redevelopment of Sunnybank Private Hospital.
The new three-level stand-alone building, which is situated at the front of the Heathscope-operated hospital on McCullough Street, will feature 1,312sqm of consulting suites and medical services and is due for practical completion this month.
The entire redevelopment, the largest in the hospital's history 38 year history, will be finalised in January 2018.
Sunnybank Private Hospital general manager Tony Williams said the redevelopment would inject new and expanded services into the area, and give patients on Brisbane's south-side better access to specialists.
"This major investment by Healthscope is testament to our commitment to providing the community with a full suite of services, while ensuring Sunnybank Private continues to deliver the quality healthcare we're renowned for, in a 'new look' facility," he said.
"Our new consulting suites will house more than a dozen new and established doctors, many of whom are relocating to the Sunnybank Private campus, including the next-generation of obstetricians.
"Sunnybank is emerging as a center for medical services and many specialists are keen to establish themselves in the burgeoning 'health hub'.
"The doctors relocating to our new suites have recognised the benefits of being connected to a leading private hospital with direct access to onsite providers of services such as pathology and imaging, as well as easily accessible, free parking for their patients."
The hospital's expansion will see the addition of a Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory, allowing diagnostic cardiology to be introduced to Sunnybank Private's boosted suite of services.
"These enhanced surgical and diagnostic capabilities means cardiac patients will no longer need to be transferred offsite to undergo angiograms or have pacemakers inserted," said Mr Williams.
"The expansion will also see the hospital's surgical capacity increased, with the addition of two new integrated operating theatres and upgrades to existing procedure rooms.
"This type of investment will ensure Sunnybank Private continues to attract quality doctors who want to be part of a progressive healthcare facility, while giving our patients access to the latest technology."
Mr Williams said the refurbishments had focused strongly on improving the 'patient experience', with the commencement of a rolling program of converting shared accommodation to private, ensuited rooms, a redesigned Day Surgery Admissions Unit and expanded recovery areas.
"Sunnybank Private's new facade, upgraded reception and refreshed wards will bring a modern-feel to the hospital while retaining its friendly, welcoming environment," he said.
"While the redevelopment is significant, we are concentrating on upgrading our offering, rather than expanding our capacity, ensuring Sunnybank Private remains a boutique hospital equipped to provide individualised care through its trusted team of established doctors and nurses."
The redevelopment will also include upgraded staff facilities, a Visiting Medical Officers (VMO) lounge and a Central Sterilising Services Department (CSSD).
