Why are so many of the left embarrassed to admit as much?

I've made this point a dozen times here. How many of our lefty advocates are embarrassed to admit it, even though they criticise the liberals with every post? My sig defines {small "l") liberal philosophy. They are the true centrist party.
If they were to admit being of the left they would have to defend Rudd/Gillard/Rudd and those crazy six years. Thy can't do that.
