Fact is SA only needed the battery because of political incompetence.
Musk, to his credit used it as a publicity stunt....advertising campaign....he is no one's fool....but the reality is Tesla is very unprofitable...... I suspect when the Chinese throw themselves at EV they will build them for half or less.....
AVZ, IF/WHEN, the resource is proved up will offer the Chinese a one stop shop for decades. People who don't think the Chinese will pay fair value IMO are mistaken....they will if its in the national interest and I believe EV's are.
India should also not be ruled out. They have ~ 42 cars per 1000 people tipped to grow to 170 by 2040....if you do these numbers its mind boggling based on population.
China has ~154, US 795, AU 740....so there is a lot of catching up to do.

For the first time the battery systems allow the power to be stored near where it is used....this is a big deal as I have been told that around 30% of SA's power is lost in transmission. There is no doubt batteries are the way of the future and IMO it won't be long before new subdivisions will be completely off grid.
Who will build them all at at price......same one's who do it now IMO..... most likely with some AVZ lithium inside. AIMO DB
