Each stock has own merits. Producers are given higher valuation due to its advanced stage, non-producers are deemed to be more speculative and are valued at less price.
But not every stock (either producer or non-producer) is the same, due to deposit size, grade, location etc.
Most stellar runs happened during exploration stages before commencement of production, e.g. FMG (1c to $12, then $1.7, now $5), SIR, PLS (3c to $1.2), KDR etc.

AVZ is currently drilling, news flow is main catalysts for share price, imo.
