If I may offer an analogy

Think of all your different shares as being "Horses" all in one race ( the race for you to make the most money). as the trading day ends the horses are in freeze frame until the next trading day starts again.

Overnight good and bad news will be made available to you, some times the horse will remain frozen for few days ( Trading Halt)or may go to the head of the field.

So as the new trading day starts your horses may be in different position on the field than they were when the trading day finished the day before.

Now there is never a final day to the race unless your particular horse is sold or breaks a leg.

So every day they go around and around in a circle, in a never ending race for your money.
