Hell again T.M. and all Readers,

Smaller efficient ,CNG powered trucks could be worth consideration for Molyhil and in addition general road making etc. would be improved. (There is an Isuzu Dealership in Alice Springs).

Over two years after taking delivery of five pollution-reducing CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) – powered Isuzu trucks, New South Wales' Gosford City Council is impressed with the reduction in running costs and minimised environmental impact the trucks are providing.
The five Isuzu NPR 400 trucks joined the Council's fleet in early 2005 with an additional truck being added only last year - the initial vehicles have now clocked up or are approaching the 50,000 kilometre mark.
According to Gosford City Council Fleet Plant Hire Coordinator, Peter Armour, the Council introduced the vehicles as part of its Corporate Greenhouse Gas Reduction Strategy, but careful monitoring over the past 27 months has also revealed some attractive cost savings.
"One cubic metre of CNG emits about 2.6 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalence (CO2e) compared to approximately 3 kilograms of CO2e for a litre of diesel combusted in a similarly sized truck," Mr Armour said.
"Since Gosford City Council has had CNG trucks, we estimate over 4,000 kilograms of CO2e per vehicle has been prevented from entering the atmosphere.
"We receive our natural gas at a discounted bulk supply rate that has not fluctuated beyond one to two cents per cubic metre over the past two years, so fuel price stability is great.
"Further to this, with continuously escalating diesel fuel prices, a CNG-powered NPR 400 costs about $8.65 per 100 kilometres to operate, compared to approximately $16.67 per 100 kilometres for an equivalent diesel engined NPR 400.
"Overall we're very pleased with our CNG trucks' performance, they have been extremely reliable - they're just as reliable as our diesel trucks," Mr Armour said.
Aside from the reduction in CO2e emissions and reduced operating costs, Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL) Planning and Engineering Support Manager, Simon Humphries, said CNG vehicles also had several other benefits.
"Exhaust pollutants such as particulate matter (PM), and nitrogen oxides (NOx), are significantly lower in CNG trucks compared to diesel trucks, and even in the most modern diesel-electric hybrids," Mr Humphries said.
"Health studies have linked PM to various diseases, while NOx is extremely toxic and reactive and can contribute to acid rain.
"Limiting the release of such pollutants into our atmosphere is important for its continued health, and Isuzu is pleased to assist and support councils, such as Gosford, to meet their environmental goals."
Five of the trucks are configured as tippers with the sixth set up with a service body, and are involved with tasks including road maintenance, parks and recreation, bridges and wharves and waste disposal.
Mr Armour said the Council planned to keep the trucks for several more years.
"We plan to keep the trucks long term," he said, "this provides the opportunity to recoup the purchase price premium associated with using this technology.
"Gosford City Council will continue to investigate and support alternative technologies for future truck purchases," he said.
Since taking delivery of its CNG trucks, several other councils have followed Gosford City Council's example by adding CNG-powered vehicles to their fleets; most recently South Australia's Salisbury City Council, which only recently took delivery of six Isuzu NPR 400s, also powered by natural gas.
