I feel you.
As much as being in the red hurts with AVZ, it's the opportunities it has robbed me of elsewhere (due to capital tied up, and probably more so due to being hesitant as a result of being down) that equally annoys me.
For instance similar to your story had a buy order in for KDR in a closing auction in the mid 80s a week or 2 ago, and pulled it last minute due to not wanting to risk more capital on the market. Today it hit $1.35.
Had numerous other scenarios during the last few months.
And the times I did pull the trigger, it was generally for a lot less then I normally would and as a result had much smaller gains.
