Nigel needs to learn to set realistic time lines. Its part of being a good manager. If you have a large resource you need to take that into account. He knows by now he has missed lots of deadlines so he needs to add in an appropriate safety factor to account for all things that can make the process take longer. If he can't even get a timeline correct what chance has he got of running the company? Better to overestimate the time required than to underestimate.
