I lost masses of money last year because I held onto shares (incl. AVZ) far too long when they were tanking. I should have set myself a stop loss and sold when it fell to that level. I did sell at 8-9c eventually having taken a big hit already, but bought back in the same amount at 4c a couple of months ago. I'm still a long way off breaking even but at least I cut my losses a bit by selling at 8-9c and not holding out all the way down to 3.7c or whatever the low was. You might consider setting yourself a mental stop loss for stocks in future. It's annoying to take a loss but it's better to take a small loss rather than a big one. Fingers crossed for you that you can at least get back to breaking even. Next time, consider diversifying your portfolio a bit and getting out of a stock when the loss becomes too much.
