Even the most seasoned investors take a hit now and then - sometimes even with exceptional research, planning and nerves of steel, you can just get unlucky. Keeping your emotions in check after a loss is an important skill, and probably only one that you can only develop through first-hand experience. I lost about double what you did before I started making any money. I joked to my accountant 'you must wonder why I keep going when I'm so bad at this'.
I always feel glad that it happened that way - if I had of made a lot of money to begin with - I probably would have been more bold and I probably would have lost much more. Wiping yourself out completely is the worst thing that you can do - and you should be commended for taking an active step to avoid that when you suspected that it might be a possibility. I hope to see you round the traps on HC, I agree with that poster who said never give up. All the very best.
