DRC: the Council of Ministers approves the draft decree on collaboration with AVZ MINERALS LTD The second meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Friday 08 May approved the draft decree approving the collaboration agreement signed between the DRC government and the firm AVZ MINERALS LTD. This draft decree presented by the Minister of Industry, Julien Paluku Kahongya, was referred to the competent inter-ministerial commission before its return to the Council of Ministers for adoption. "The draft decree approving the collaboration agreement signed between the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo and AVZ MINERALS LTD and the draft collaboration agreement between the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo and AVZ MINERALS LTD on a cooperation project were presented to the Council by the Minister of Industry. These two texts were referred to the competent inter-ministerial commission before being returned to the Council of Ministers for adoption", the minutes of the Council of Ministers state. Let us recall that Julien Paluku had already signed in February 2020 in Kinshasa, a memorandum of understanding with the AVZ Minérales company, partner of Cominiere (a public mining company created on the ashes of the ex-Zairetain) for the creation of a Special Economic Zone in Manono. This is the second special economic zone to be created after Maluku in Kinshasa. Tanganyika province is a mining zone. At the end of November 2018, the company AVZ Minerals, had declared a reserve of 6.6 million tonnes of Lithium on the Manono deposit, in the former Katanga province, which is still being explored. It is also rich in other resources, notably fisheries in Lake Tanganyika, the deepest lake in Africa, which also contains oil deposits on its shores.
