Zijin is acquiring Neo Lithium which CATL owns 8%. If CATL lost Neo Lithium, they certainly would not afford to lose Manono project, imo.
On 2 August 2021, chairman of Zijin, Chen Jinghe stated that he will develop new energy and new material resources including lithium mines. In the future, he plans to acquire some projects and mine assets and open up the entire industrial chain from lithium upstream resources to materials. Look for opportunities to develop lithium mines.
Millennial’s assets have also attracted interest from China Molybdenum, another Chinese listed company.
More Chinese large companies (not just lithium companies like Ganfeng) are now joining acquisition of lithium projects
