But as I stated both strategies make money but both don't work together.

Trading a stock for beer money works even if you are holding the same as for stock long term investing. But one need to know I am doing X for beer and holding X for investment.

Trading a LT position because it dropped 5 or 10% on a day the whole sector is getting spanked is silly.

I day trade for a living and have been investing for 14years. I find both go hand in hand well together. Day trading helps find investing opportunities as you cover generally the whole market. Investing can also point you in the direction of day trades. It's not for everyone but to say they don't work together is your own limiting belief
