    You can actually change the investment strategy within your SMSF to be able to purchase ASX stocks whether they are in the ASX 200 , 300 or outside of that. I have done so and I have also passed the ATO audit with no issues. However, this is not advice to say you should, more so just letting you know that you can should you choose to.
