official DRC government tweet(see below) from the ministry of mines the plan for the DRC to be the African battery hub for electric vehicles/energy storage is starting to look
V.E.R.Y. R.E.A.L. with financing of the electric batteries project expected this Wednesday in Haut Katanga(Will there be other news???) and with AVZ the only miner on the DRC battery council its role will be pivotal.
The DRC battery industry will have enormous implications globally, and for AVZ being the major supplier of lithium for the batteries. A battery industry in the DRC has always made sense to me with the incentive that
building batteries in the DRC is 3 times cheaper than in the USA and China 
(Bloomberg study) and the DRC having the largest, purest and readily expandable lithium deposit globally(AVZ) and having most of the world's high grade cobalt amongst other critical lithium-ion battery metals.
Also think transport. With a battery industry created transport will become
redundant. AVZ mines and refines the lithium and then that lithium is used by the battery manufacturer
in country. BTW transport pre a battery industry is already looking good. To quote Managing Director Nigel Ferguson,
“SC6 is 6% lithium, 94% waste, whereas our primary lithium sulphate( PLS) is going to be 96% lithium, 4% waste. We won’t be shipping anywhere near as much waste around the globe – saving on transport and saving on those impending taxes and disposal costs on the other end.”
