Washington Agreement: No mention of "immediate withdrawal of Rwanda's defensive measures"

Kigali has responded to Félix Tshisekedi's statements regarding the agreement that the DRC and Rwanda are expected to sign this Friday, June 27, in Washington, at the initiative of the United States.

Through its Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Rwandan government explained one aspect of the agreement in question.

In the agreement to be signed this Friday in Washington, "nowhere in the draft peace agreement to be signed is there the mention: 'immediate withdrawal of Rwanda's defensive measures.''

In reality, the Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs continued, the terms "Rwandan Defense Forces," "Rwandan troops," or "withdrawal" appear nowhere in the document.

On the DRC side, Félix Tshisekedi sees things differently.

The Congolese president asserts that the upcoming Washington agreement between the Congolese and Rwandan foreign ministers aims to "end the war" and ensure the "unconditional withdrawal of armed groups."

But he warns:

"This is also an economic war," he said in an interview with journalist Hariana Veras on Thursday, June 26.

"If Trump ends this war, I will be the first to vote for his Nobel Prize," added Félix Tshisekedi.
