    Yes that's basically the point. Lithium, not perfect (nothing is), but it's pretty damn good. New technology is always shiny and the positive features are what everyone hears about until something goes amiss, then there is the over-reaction against the technology and after some years people get used to it. Therefore Lithium has undergone and survived the test of time now and it will remain in place for a long time, like lead acid batteries before it which are still around! It will take a while for whatever new thing we hear about to take hold and displace what's there now.

    The race is to produce high energy density without affecting safety. Secondly the race is to produce a battery that does not foul after several 1000 recharges (Lithium batteries in their current form do foul and as do most other battery technologies with crystallisation, dendrite formation etc), and can be recycled/reprocessed without excessive cost. Thirdly is to achieve the same convenience as liquid fuels (eg: hot swappable batteries or liquid rechargeable electrolyte fuels). The Lithium and EV story is just beginning IMO. DYOR.
