Chips being the the oil is starting to ring very true. It's looking like one of the major winner's in the CHIP act will the automotive industry. Gotta love the yanks and their national security.

“General Motors applauds the bipartisan support in the U.S. Senate of the CHIPS and Science Act, and we thank Senators Peters and Stabenow for their leadership on this issue that is of the utmost importance to the U.S. automotive manufacturing sector and the 10.3 million jobs the industry supports. This legislation represents an important step to ensure that the U.S. is positioned to maintain and enhance its place as the leader in automotive innovation, and we urge the swift passage by the U.S House of Representatives to see this enacted into law,” said General Motors Vice President of External Affairs Elizabeth Reicherts.
Here's a little video on the global chip shortage. Focuses GlobalFoundries, mentions the automotive industry and GM. Enjoyed this from GF's chief legal officer.
"The Biden administration called for a meeting, Senator Raimondo was heavily involved, at The White House! Where CEO's of car markers, CEO's of companies like GlobalFoundries came together"
"As far as the GM agreement, I'd say first and foremost, that's our national security in bringing the technology onshore"

https://www.drive.com.au/news/volvo-xc40-and-xc60-safety-tech-deleted-amid-semiconductor-shortage/
"Volvo – which invented the three-point seatbelt and then did not charge any of its rivals to use the life-saving patent – has joined the growing list of car companies to delete important safety technology amid the ongoing shortage of semiconductors"
"Most other European car companies – such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Skoda and others – have briefly deleted some safety features on certain models due to semiconductor shortages over the past two to three years"
"However, the world's biggest car-maker, Japanese auto giant Toyota, has for now refused to delete important safety features"
"As a result, the waiting times for Toyota cars have grown – but when the cars are delivered to customers they are fully equipped"
