Can someone who has a good understanding of the shorting game comment on whether any of the below theories have any merit?

Let’s say there are no announcements by end of October. At that point WBT gets booted out of the ASX 200 and 300 assuming sp remains at roughly todays price or lower. It then means that the shares can no longer be shorted, so no new shorters can enter the market and only current shorters remain who at some point need to buy back to repay their borrowings.

Without new shorters entering the market, the sp will be driven by the more traditional vagaries of the stock market and the terrible manipulation that has occurred by the shorters goes away to a large extent. Existing shorters will need to make a decision as to when they bank their profits and will not want to get left holding the hot coals. And they know this now, so they should begin to play against each other and unwind their positions from now until end of Oct.

Alternatively the shorters could drive price up to stay in the ASX 300 by end of October in order that they can keep playing their games.

So I’m thinking that with or without any announcements from WBT, the sp may well have an uptick the closer we get to end of October. To continue to hold a short position once we’re out of the ASX 300 poses quite a lot of increased risk for the shorters. To continue to hold a short position would indicate your belief in the company has gone or that you think Mr Market is going to lose his nerve and sell. But without the continued pressure of new shorters entering the market, more stability should surround the sp and Mr Market might start to see light at the end of the tunnel. This in turn may limit the upside to shorters of staying short and result in them buying back in.

Is there any logic to this or have I just demonstrated a complete misunderstanding of the shorting game? Could we see the end of this horrific run in the next few weeks due to the above reasons?
