Is that right?
If they have us bent over the table, why would they be "allowing" this to rise so much recently?
People overestimate shorters, assuming that they're market gods or something, when in reality most are just ordinary punters (often retail as well). They're not smarter, they just got lucky with the recent market pessimism (notice that it is going up strongly today, when the rest of the market is having a stunning day)
