I'm listening to the Musk audiobook at the moment. At Spacex he had a detailed spreadsheet of every part in the rocket, its raw material cost and the cost they pay the supplier, with the sole reason being to bring costs down. He regularly used it in reviews. That's why you could expect them to be concious of costs, because the guy at the top is hyper focused on it.
I don't care to argue about Musk, just noticed this as I was listening.
