Although GF originally licensed the product from Renesas, they later purchased it from Renesas. This would mean Renesas has no further interest in that ReRAM - financial or otherwise. Therefore the related companies engaging in shorting Weebit would not benefit from its promotion. I think the shorters' motivation is purely money from those retail holders weakening and selling.
