Although many shares have been sold short recently, it doesn't always add to the aggregate as much as they are covering as they go.

Here is an example:

Note the 5th May - 991,888 "reported short". [Discrepancies in how many "reported short" seem to be fairly regular. I'd assume due to this reporting being "voluntary", and to the fact misreporting can be of benefit to the shorters when needed.]



And yet if you look at the Aggregate figures:

4th May - 67,559,138
5th May - 67,586,216

So only 27,078 added to the aggregate that day.

Not to worry, the Aggregate still sits at 67,586,216 and rising

...
