    I was looking for information on the warhead used in the SA11 missile which is used with the Buk missile launcher, mainly to see if it could produce fragments which would cause the largish round holes in the cockpit area of MH17.

    I came across this website which suggests that the fragments are not round and are somewhat smaller than the round holes. Having said that, information concerning what is in the warhead is very hard to find and maybe could change without notice.

    The website, though, seems to stop short of answering it's own question as to exactly what happened, but it is a very good reference on the technology and use of a Buk launcher.
