GVE asks about the end game. For the US it is clearly the destruction of Russia as both a military and economic power. They are spending too much to gain a regional ceasefire that wouldn't be peace. If a ceasefire is the best outcome, it will all flare up again in 5 yrs time.
Ukraine just happens to be the arena in which the destruction occurs. It would be a blessing for Russia if they were forced to join the rest of the world in relatively peaceful coexistence instead of continually fighting old wars.
