For what it is worth I think Russia was being very responsible.

If it was any one else they would be applauded.

My opinion is that if any section of any nation wants to seperate then they should have that right.

If Western Australia wants to be a seperate nation or become part of another nation, let it.

Nations come about by smaller ethnic or tribal groups seeing the wisdom of combining to form a more powerful trading block.

South Ossettia obviously has no affinity with Georgia and whether they become independent or join Russia, then that is their right IMO.
