Russia says Britain helped fake Syria chemical attack, page-16

The Russian leadership may be pontificating with ridiculous words denying everything as they always tend to do. Their stance is just for consumption by the gullible! In strategic terms imo there is no way the Russians want the Assad regime to continue using chemical weapons which could draw a much stronger response from the USA and its allies and therefore harm Russia’s own interests. The Russians will not want a war with the USA and Allies and vice versa but the Russians also know that the use of chemical weapons is an illegal act of international law and the USA and allies will have justification to move against the Syrian regime if it continues in both production and use of such weapons. The Russians want their interests in Syria to be intact and to be of benefit to Russia economically. Therefore imo if push comes to shove and the Assad regime does not submit re chemical weaponry, the Russians will force the regime to do so or perhaps face even more serious consequences. IMO there is no benefit for Russia to engage against the USA and allies over the illegal use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime. Easier to make Assad comply!
