Lavrov stated before Christmas either the US who make the decisions for Ukraine agree to peace with Crimea and the Donbass staying under Russian control or the Russian Army will solve the issue.

I guess Lavrov can 'state' whatever he likes. He can declare that Russia will conquer and annex Mars and it will be added to Putlers expanding Empire. Nobody has any control over what Lavrov decides to state.

Russia will not be allowed to change borders by force. We can compare and contrast that fact with the statement made by Lavrov, and we find that the two positions are incompatible.

The Russian Army can attempt to 'solve the issue', as it has been trying to do for over 11 months now.
There are two sides to that coin however.
The Western powers can attempt to solve the issue of an illegal invasion and illegal 'annexations' in their own way, and they are stepping up their efforts to do that.
So we see the Russian Army attempting to take Bakhmut since 1 August 2022, and we see the effects of HIMARs strikes on Russian Army barracks, logistics centres, and ammo dumps.

The Russian Army has been humiliated in Ukraine. Putinists like to fantasise and daydream about an extremely powerful Putinist military force that goes around 'solving issues', but the reality is that the Russian Army is a pulverised and struggling entity that was reduced to a beaten rabble at places like Kherson and Izyum.
