Europe were in th process of slowly phasing out fossil fuels anyway in favour of renewables but after the invasion they stopped buying the oil and started cutting back gas and started finding replacement sources - which they have done you notice !
Then because Europe wasn't paying in Roubles , and because he thought he could "turn the screws" putin actually shut off the gas remember - none flowing .At that point it was clear cut for Europe and they wanted nothing to do with putin or his gas - can't be blackmailed like that - unreliable supply! ...(and they had other sources )
I won't comment on who blew nordstream up , I don't know , no-one does .... you may have whatever theories you choose ....BUT , by then it CERTAINLY WAS a very white elephant .
