    You bring out an interesting thought is this game of brinkmanship, I think game theory applies although I barely understand the theory.

    Nukes are considered as deterrents preventing the other side to consider in MAD. That status quo has so far prevented any real threat since the Cuban missile crisis. We are once again revisiting the same moment from the past. What if one side decides to fire a major city levelling nuke, a nuke that will not contaminate the world completely like those two in Japan. Will the other side retaliate knowing this could be MAD or blink and accept a limited destruction?
