What is fascinating about this Nordstream attack and no one wants to talk about in the west is that is a terrorist attack and an act of war against a fellow nato countries by other nato countries.
Obviously nothing will happen right now as they are all trying to remain in lock step with one another, but where does this leave nato from a legal and constitutional perspective.
It can only be ignored for so long but eventually the questions will be asked and accountibility demanded. How is it a group of Nato countries (US, Norway possibly UK ) could launch a terrorist attack on the assets of other Nato countries, namely Germany, Netherlands and Austria. Did they know this was going to occur?
Germany in particular has suffered enormous economic damage as a result. Ironically Nordstream was excluded from the sanctions.
The future does not look good for nato. this is really a question for the lawyers but this potentially null and voids agreements.
There appears nothing in the nato agreements to allow for such an event, it only deals with non nato acts of aggression, notwithstanding nato is operating outside its charter.
There is also talk that Russia will now go after Norway in the various courts, smart move, the best strategy is to go after the little guys who will dob on the big guys. Norway is fastidious when it comes to legal obligations, i wonder if they really thought this through.
