It is possible that Russia was fooled into thinking the west would behave rationally and if so then they probably deserve the problems .

If they weren't fooled, but have been indecisive militarily as a strategy then they deserve the problems as well.

I know, easy to say in hindsight, but the very first actions probably should have been full launch on London, Washington and Tel Aviv because that is probably how it will ultimately play out anyway.
