This is now a global economy, if Putin want to start an unwinnable war and condemn his citizens to decade of economy impact this will be on him even after he dies in the next 10-20 years. Sure Russia might have the state funds to minimize the financial impact for a few years or even 5 years but not decades. Even North Korea have trading partners with the world, Russia won't have any trading partner from the Western developed countries and possible even China who are starting to voice their concern publicly.
