If Australia was invaded I expect people would volunteer en masse, but I would also expect there to be conscription, and I would be filthy at draft dodgers.
Ukrainians are not "putting their lives on the in order for Zelensky to give some good news in his daily addresses", they are putting their lives on the line for the survival of their nation, their culture, their language, their towns, and their families, in the face of a brutal and unnecessary invasion by a hostile power. If, generally speaking, the population's heart wasn't in it, resistance to Russia would have crumbled quite quickly, regardless of conscription. Look at how quickly the Afghan government collapsed in the face of the Taliban advance. Clearly, the Ukrainian people are determined to fight for their country against the invader.
