You’re a left winger idealist ranting against ‘the US’, praising (totalitarian) China, and getting into bed with the far right as part of an ‘alliance of the damned’.

Is the US the ideal country? No way. Probably the best and most liveable countries in the world are in Scandinavia. They have a mix of high incomes, high taxes, high living standards, and are democratic and forward-thinking. But these countries and democratic countries throughout Europe would not exist if it were not for the umbrella of security that the worlds biggest country provides. And totalitarian states don’t like it. Of course they want the US to ‘just go away’ so they can beat up Estonia or Ukraine or South Korea behind the bike sheds, with no-one coming to their aid.

Most of Russia would be a German colony today if it were not for US ‘Lend Lease’ that gave the USSR billions and billions of dollars of war fighting equipment, raw materials, food stuffs, and more. So when Putinists thunder against the US do they ever stop for one moment to think of the enormous debt of gratitude owed?

The US fights more wars because it is the worlds largest democracy and - when fascism or communism, or communofascism come calling - it becomes ‘the great arsenal of democracy’. This is not rocket science.

The far right race to embrace fascism because they can’t stand that some people have freedom when their desire is to stone them to death. They can’t even stomach an evolving conversation around freedoms and how far they should go. They just want to chuck democracy in the bin and scrap all of freedoms, in an act of pure spite.

The far left want to scrap our system as well. Idealists don’t believe in ‘lesser evils’. It has to be perfect or that will spend their entire lives trying to tear it down. But nothing in life is truly perfect. Realism is seeing the world as it is, rather than committing yourself to a life of destroying and wrecking in the name of idealism.

Both the far right and the far left are embracing fascism and totalitarianism, and are supporting each other. The far right promote the geopolitical viewpoints of Marxist academics, while the far left promote the military viewpoints of right wing military men. What unites them is a hatred of democracy and a hatred of the world as it is: they want it remade as they would ideally have it, but will destroy our world in the process.
