‘Russian oligarchs asked Putin to cancel prison sentences for money laundering. After agreeing to a 300 billion ruble "voluntary" contribution to the budget, Russia's richest people are asking the Kremlin for a return favor. The Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RUIE) has prepared proposals to reduce the administrative burden on business and proposes to abolish criminal liability under 10 economic articles of the Criminal Code, Vedomosti reports. Among the articles to be decriminalized is the transfer of money in rubles or foreign currency to the accounts of non-residents using false documents. The current penalty is up to 3 years in prison. RUIE is the country's largest business association, which has billionaires on its board, proposes that the article be reclassified as an administrative offence and the penalty be reduced to a fine. In fact, Russia's largest association of entrepreneurs is proposing Putin to allow money laundering as an "anti-crisis measure".’
