that is a possibility
we alredy saw NATO lose a lot of zing after the breakup of the USSR untl very recently and they were tending to lean a lot on the US
countries were still joining - the insurance policy you hope you never have to use - but NATO countries on average weren't spendng much on defence, had strong trade ties with russia and were pretty blaise about russian risk ..... until they weren't .
NATO could easily revert back to that sort of lethargy if the threat from russia did recede .
certainly russia needs to adjust to the new reality and either improve drastically economicaly or get used to no longer being a global power .
