Who and what predominantly Russian speaking Ukrainians may have voted for 18 months ago is irrelevant.
Many pro-Russia politicians in Ukraine are not pro-Putin. Some pro-Russian politicians have been executed by Putinist fighters in Ukraine.
Putin is an extreme electoral liability. Just about every Ukrainian hates Putin for what he has done to them.
