A Ukraine war may not serve anyone any good or at least a risk to them (e.g., Putin himself, if it fails from Russian perspective), but it will likely do one person benefit, Boris Johnson, as given the timing it makes it more tricky for the British to attempt to change a PM. Or one could perhaps argue the other way, "Put someone in charge FAST who can actually lead, potentially during an international conflict/war which may be days away and in which British may be involved." It is just a little difficult to picture Boris Johnson leading in those circumstances.
If it is the case that the Tory Party gives Boris Johnson the boot, then one can say the Trump style leadership era, of self-serving "leaders" through popularist and "reality" TV style approach is OVER.
That will likely be seen in our next election here in Oz as well ... the world and Australia are waking up to short sighted politics and increasingly concerned about real and important domestic and international (substantially economic and environmental) issues that need leaders who can think at that level ... and not get caught in petty, e.g., politically correct, politic.
If Scott Morrison does not have a hose, then Australia should give the parliament a hose down.
You may note that in the above, I am talking about leadership not political party (conservative or otherwise).
By the way, has anyone noticed in the past few years when US, UK, AUS politicians have been spending their time dealing with issues they create for themselves and waste parliament time and our money, the Russian and Chinese governments have been strengthening their position in their own country band more importantly internationally?!
While I am here and on the above, I wonder if we got the meaning of democracy right. For the past few years we have been thinking democracy is about taking care of "political correctness", ... and dwindling into the gutters, taken all the way to the top and how every $ and every second is spend around it, particular in our parliament. Maybe someone can look into the stats and find out how many bills have been introduced (and debated for hours, days, months and in some cases for years ...) for things that were more about political correctness than national prosperity. Given the critical importance international footing, we seem to lead the world on politically correct issues, whilst Russia and China find space in vast areas we overlook ... and every now and then we open our eyes and cry.
While Russia and China are investing in intelligence that helps them pursue and moving ahead with their goals, western countries seem to be so invested on developing sophisticated intelligence apparatus to know what Russia and China are doing. This, by definition, is being one step behind, never mind the question; what is the use of intelligence if you don't have leaders to do something with or about it?
