the facts are , the Ukrainians had insufficient troops in the area , an error on their part , and if the russians were at all competent it should've worked
except , because of choosing the wrong timing (mud) they were forced to stick to roads making the convoy an excellent target and more particularly because of logistics failures which bought Ukrainians time
two months later and the tanks could've used minor roads and fields and avoid some of the javelins by spreading out more better logistic planning and support would've seen tanks and vehicles NOT run out of fuel and blocking the road and men not run out of food
basic incredibly stupid stupid basic errors was a revelatio to me and I believe most people who useless russia actually was
I'm guessing the timing was political - down to putin - don't know if anyone was prepared to say ,"not a good idea because of the mud " or not
