    History shows it doesn't work that way. An invaded country will always hold out longer than an invader, on account of the simple fact that it is their home, they can't pull out. An invasion needs to be quick to be successful. I can't think of any invasion in the last 200 years that went on to be successful if it wasn't won in the first year. (I'm sure there are some examples, just can't think of any off the top of my head).
