Chasiv Yar ...high ground and defensible ...despite what Zelensky says , and there is SOME strategic value in Bakhmut , I believe it's more important because of morale but the russ can't leave Chasiv Y ar behind their lines if they were to head west .
It would leave them vulnerable to being flanked and cut off .
