    PokerMoe, you're referring to recent IMF statements of predicted gross domestic product I assume. If so the IMF figure for Russia of 0.7 % does include military spending. So these predicted GDP figures are heavily distorting the implications for the Russian people. A better measure, in my view, would be GDP excluding war spending.

    Obviously GDP is a very crude measure which, to be more meaningful, depends on what economic activities are included and excluded. For example including the illegal drug trade in a country's GDP would also produce another massive distortion.

    Regarding 2014 figures, no I haven't had a squizz yet. Are you able to give us a link? It may have been posted by someone I have on "ignore".
