Representatives of the military replenishment commands began a real manhunt for students in Moscow; summons to the army are distributed among others in dormitories, Radio Svoboda reported on Saturday via local Russian social media channels.
Documents from the Ministry of Defense are received by students of the most prestigious universities, such as Moscow State University (MGU) and the Higher School of Economics. Although full-time students are entitled to deferment of military service under Russian law, there are reports that such students are "strongly urged" to join the army, Radio Svoboda reports.
These regulations are a digital GULAG, from which it is very difficult to hide. Only in Moscow will candidates for the armed forces be searched using four different passer-by identification systems, journalist Andrei Zakharov warned last Wednesday in an interview with the independent television Nastoyashcheye Vremya.
